Mystic Gemini's BigBrother POV

float herd

Thursday, 24 July 2008

The most confusing thing about Wednesday's show recap was the way they tried to convince us that there were actually some defined, logical alliances in the house.  It's not terribly interesting if they're all on the same side.  It's true that there is a Team Libra, Jessie's Brain Trust, The Old People, and Doomed Alleged Friends of Brian.  But yet, in the end, everyone seems to go the same way, whether it fits their plan or not.  It finally dawned on me....there are no true alliances because they're all floaters.  More on that later.

But first, our Wednesday recap.  There was no real campaigning, and in the end it was pretty clear that Steven would go.  Most of the day was just laying around, and cleaning, and whining from Libra.  And a humorous moment when Jessie decided to iron his t-shirt.

happy    dopey

The show went on, and sure enough, Steven was kicked..and hard.  Not even a sympathy vote.  But he left with the last word of "suck it, bitches!"  Wow, said Julie.  And bye Steven, said the rest of them.  He got a bit sniffly with the goodbye messages.  Then the rest of them were marched out to play a "what's missing?" HOH.  Apparently the "aliens" in the mirrors stole their stuff.  I've not seen any of them Jedi-drilling or Natalie-counting this season, but the questions weren't that hard.  (What room would the cupcakes be in other than the kitchen?)

So Keesha won, and pretty much right away they all started in on her.  There was a push to nom Libra, but she's not going for it.  She might really want to but she can't strike out like that this early.  Plus Team Libra camped out and reminded her that she's one of them.  Keesha seems to want to target Angie.  I heard her say that she can't deal with "girls like her" meaning those that aren't the Super Bitch Barbie type.  She said this specifically in contrast to April, whom she says she can handle b/c she comes across her type "everyday at Hooters."

Next, Keesha makes a deal with Memphis that she won't nom him as long as he promises not to save Angie with the veto, should he win it.  She's also pulled in both Renny and Jerry and told them how she just can't stand how other people have targeted them b/c they're the older people, and she won't go after them, as long as they protect her.  Last, but not least, the group calls in Dan and offers to let him in.  He accepts with hugs and handshakes.  He also tells them if they hear anything from "the other side" (i.e. Jessie's Brain Trust) that he had a previous deal with them that it's a lie, and they're just trying to cause trouble.  Which is a nice cover for the fact that he's already got a handshake deal with JBT.

Then Dan pulls out what may be one of the smartest moves so far in BB10.  He tells them that he's not good at outright lying, and asks if anyone has any "tips" for what he should do if confronted.  And then they all proceed to tell him their tricks.  Ollie says he asks questions, someone says use humour, someone else says tell the truth but make it sound like you're being sarcastic.  (Oh, yeah, right I'm so in their alliance. Ha!)  Excellent.  So now he knows exactly what to watch for in each of them.

Jessie's been elected to sit beside Angie, and if someone is veto'ed Michelle's the repl-nom.  Now, if Michelle wins the veto and saves Jessie, Keesha has a problem.  But she'll jump off that bridge when she comes to it.

ang5

But seriously, they're all floaters.  What's a floater?  Anyone who just bobs along and "floats" whichever way the tide is turning.  See BB7 Erika: every week she marched up to the HOH and said "I'll do whatever you want." The least floaty is Angie, and even she voted out Brian and Steven, both of whom I think she really would have rather kept.  The best hope for the game is that Angie wins the veto, or somehow manages to stay, and then wins HOH next week.  Then watch them all float right over to her.

LotD came this afternoon when Michelle and Angie were talking about why Keesha won't put Libra.  They were saying that Libra is running Keesha's HOH.  And then  Michelle comes out with, "Last week, when Jessie was HOH, I never told him what to do, who to put up."  Jessie's Brain say what?

misdirection

Tuesday, 22 July 2008

It's going to be a short entry for me today--had a killer day at the "real" job....  So, here's a few what are they doing/What were they thinking caps for you to ponder:

w1    w2    w3

I really don't get what's up with the hiding behind/under the pillows on the backyard sofas, but a lot of them seem to do it.

In other news, last night an "alien" appeared to several of them in the mirrors.  Enough saw it that it doesn't seem like they just mistook a camera's shadow.  And whether or not it's related, they were told to get all dolled up for a surprise tonight. Like good little hamsters, they did just that.  Turned out it was for an interview for the Late, Late Show tonight.  When it was over most of them didn't look super-thrilled about it.  But the slop-condemned got some good news--they're off as of midnight tonight.

d1    d2

The Tuesday show had some great misdirection, showing the most convincing parts of Steven's kick-Libra plan, and leaving out all of Michelle's crazy pacing and ranting about how it was no good for her.  What they aired even made her sound reasonable.  At the same time, you could almost hear the Wicked Witch of the West soundtrack playing as Libra stormed through the house during the "old person" fight.  Many TVOVs (TV-only viewers) were probably surprised when Michelle didn't go with the veto plan.  It will be interesting to see how/if the misdirection comes off tomorrow when it's almost guaranteed that Steven will be kicked.  Though, Dan's awfully confident...and that rarely goes well in BB.

yeah you

The show also corrected me on a number of points about the POV comp.  I thought Keesha got the slop pass, I thought Michelle won by default (when in fact she answered at least one question correctly), and I hadn't caught that Dan had thrown the comp.  I blame the HGs.  They just don't talk enough about what goes on behind the fishies and bubbles.

That's all for now, folks.

slip slidin' away

Monday, 21 July 2008

You know it's BB when they break out the homemade slip 'n' slide.  Most of them had a good time sliding around, greased up with dishsoap.  Libra complained that they shouldn't be wasting the soap.  Eventually, April complained that she flopped too hard and had a harm on her famous "boobies."  Though, later when cuddling with Ollie, she said it was her rib that was hurt.  But otherwise, no major injuries.  And they actually had a little fun.

The slop brigade had been "so sure" they'd be getting off slop soon, today or tomorrow.  They've now been informed that, no, they're on it until 9 PM Wednesday.  I guess no one bothered to read the rules.  Libra's not happy.  Sur-prise, Sur-prise.  Speaking of Libra, I barely recognized her yesterday when she was all made-up for the veto ceremony:

libra?

And, yeah, the veto ceremony.  To no one's surprise, Michelle didn't use the veto.  Steven had made a last ditch effort to shake things up.  He went to Jessie first, trying to "respect" him as HOH.  But Jessie can't operate without his brain, so he immediately sent Stevie off to fetch Michelle.  Once Michelle joined, she paced a lot and tried to get Steven to explain how it was in her interest to use the veto.  I thought he scored a couple of points, but she wasn't buying.  Jessie would pipe up every once in a while and try to suggest getting Renny out (Steven was saying the house wanted Libra gone).  But in the end it was all about Michelle.  I guess that's fair enough.  As she reminded us 10,000 times during her pacing, she's the one with the POV.  Dan made an appearance too, which was a little odd.  It was mostly odd because during the Steven chat Michelle said a couple of times that she was surprised/insulted/whatever that Dan hadn't even asked her to use the veto on him.  When Dan came up minutes later, he didn't have a strong argument, but he did say "I couldn't respect myself if I didn't at least ask."  That seemed to be all Michelle needed to hear.  And in the end Dan and Michelle shook on...something.  Jessie had left to go eat, but his brain made the deal so he'll be held to it too.

the shakedown

For some reason Steven decided to tell Libra that he had suggested a kick Libra plan.  The night before lots of them had been saying they'd be happy to see her go.  But once the POV was slammed into its little box, suddenly the tide had turned and they were all shocked, shocked I tell you, to hear that anyone would suggest kicking Libra.  This only stuck another few nails in his coffin.  It seems it's been a done deal since Brian walked out the door.  But I'm still hoping for some drama.  I mean, what are the livefeeds without Tuesday Night Waffling?

eh? What's that you say there, sonny?

Sunday, 20 July 2008

I nearly experienced some hearing loss yesterday when Libra started SCREAMING at Jerry, and later Renny in a fight over the comments that Libra (allegedly) made saying that the two "old and slow people" had caused Team Libra lose the food comp.  I didn't catch how it started, but it seems that Jerry confronted Libra early in the morning, possibly before she was even out of bed.  Libra violently denied the comments.  Eventually she demanded to know who had told Jerry she'd said it, and he finally alluded that it had been Renny.  The fight then moved on to be between Libra and Renny.

jerry    fight!

Libra did acknowledge that she had said that for future comps they should have the teams "more balanced."  She said she meant that to be age-wise, gender-wise, etc.  I vaguely remembered her comments from the time, and I've since gone back and "checked the tapes."  What I did find was that Libra said several times (including once to Renny) that "of course we had the two older people on our team" and she did suggest the "balancing."  She never said slow (that I heard), and she never came right out and said that the un-balanced teams were why they had lost.  She said everyone did their best and they lost as a team.  Yet it was pretty clear she felt having "the two older people" on the same team was "unfair."  She didn't say much about Renny, but she did go on quite a bit about Jerry's poor eyesight.  We should get the food comp. on the show tonight and it will be interesting to see how it plays out, and what they show of Libra's post-comp comments.  Not to mention if they show the fight.

all about libra

The rest of the day was pretty much a whole lot of nothing, except for a streaking incident by Steven.  There was something about a banner plane that said something about Keesha, but it caused no real drama.  They couldn't even agree on what it said.  Michelle continues to act as Jessie's Brain, and seems to be partially controlling him via massages and manicures/pedicures.  It's all just a little odd.  Regardless, chances are show won't use the veto, and keep her (I mean Jessie's) noms in place.

When ShowtimeTime rolled around, they had decided to get all dolled-up and put on a talk-show/variety-show skit.  Some of it was pretty funny, including Host Dan's mascara mustache and chest hairs, the Gay Antique Road Show, and April/Ollie's Maury Povich spoof ("you ARE the father!").  The prep time went on way longer than the actual skit, including extended blocks of Dan pacing in the storage room.  There was also quite a staged feeling to the whole thing (staged as in the DR suggested they be more interesting than bumps on a log), especially when they all gathered in the living room just as they do before a comp.  Afterwards, they spent a long time congratulating themselves on how great they were, how they'll be all over youtube and famous before they know it, and wondering if BB liked it.  But still, it was entertainment, and that's better than nothing.  We are here for the amusement, and I don't mind the staged stuff.  I'd just like it interspersed with some drama and game play.  This is Big Brother, after all.  Where's the drama?  The alliances and backstabbing?  The game talk and house flipping?

Other highlights included Ollie saying he was dressed as BB9 Parker, and Dan, for some unknown reason, throwing a "pie" in his own face (I think it was shaving cream).

Then before lights-out there was some serious undercover action from Ollie and April in the spa room.  They're definitely setting up to be the Showmance/Homance of the season.  (And, no, Jerry wasn't sitting there for the main event--I just thought the cap was funny.)

please pass the slop

Friday, 18 July 2008

It's Friday, and that means POV day in the BB house.  Shortly before they disappeared into the bubbly beyond a couple of the HGs were discussing missteps of seasons past, including Marcellas not saving himself and Dustin taking all the prizes in the temptation veto on BB8.  And Libra said she was hoping for a slop pass.

The DR must have been asking probing questions because when we get back they've played the POV and it was something akin to the the one King Dustbin got the stuff from.  I didn't hear much about big ticket items, but apparently there was a slop pass, but Libra passed on it and Keesha got it.  So Miss Anorexic Barbie, I can go for a week without food, gets to eat now.  And of course this is scoring her no points with Queen Libra.

bitter queen   ana barbie

The other POV player (besides of course Jessie, Dan and Steven) was Michelle.  And all she walked away with was that pretty necklace they all want so much.  It sounds like she basically won by default, that there was some sort of elimination process and by simply not answering anything she ended up as the last one standing.

veto winner

Now that the POV is taken care of, the campaigning can begin in earnest.  Odds are pretty good that Michelle, as a member of Jessie's Brain Trust, won't veto either of the noms.  Dan thinks he has a deal with Jessie, but it's not quite clear if that's for real or not.  So Steven has trotted up to HOH to try to understand why he's on JBT's hit list.  What ensues is one of the most childish arguments I've heard in BB history.  Jessie tells Steven that even though he voted to evict Brian, he's still seen as "on that team" because he hung out with B.  And Jessie is incredibly pouty that Steven didn't "congratulate" Jessie on his HOH win, or come to his room reveal.  What?

the hulk

Steven counter-argues that he voted the "right way" and there's nothing more he could do.  He does seem to acknowledge that he wasn't boisterously celebratory after the HOH comp., but says he did congratulate Jess later.  "Yeah, like 24 hours later," is Jessie's come back.  And then just to remind us that this is a similar fight to Renny-gate, he goes on and on about how he's such a sound sleeper, he can sleep through Ollie's snoring, BB calling him to the DR, an earthquake, whatever...but yet Renny's screeching and Keesha's cackle wake him up. And that's terrible.  Because he's such a sound sleeper.  It's not faaaaair.

unfaaaaair    unenthused

After they've hashed and rehashed, the JBT alliance gets together and confirms that Steven is still the target du jour.  But it's a long time until Wednesday and Dan is certainly not necessarily safe.

LotD goes to Memphis:  We'll come to the bridge when we cross it. [pause] Or cross that bridge when we come to it.  Wait, what's that phrase?
